Interesting Facts: The foliage of this plant is noticeable in late winter and early spring. The foliage will wither and die in late spring and early summer and a single flower stalk will emerge with a cluster of small, white flowers. The wild leek is a relative of other pungent wildflower species such as garlic and chives. The species name of this plant comes from Gree (tri and kokkos) meaning "3-seeds" in reference to the fruit, which is a cluster of black seeds in groups of 3. This plant occurs throughout the preserve in deep woodland areas.
