Interesting Facts: DO NOT EAT ANY PART OF THIS PLANT!!! Cows who feed on this plant are not affected, but this toxin in large quantities can be fatal to humans. This "milk sickness" is said to have caused the death of Abraham Lincoln's mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, on October 5, 1818. This plant is widespread in all areas of the preserve.
