Interesting Facts: This Buckwheat species is often referred to a "Lady's Thumb" because of the "thumbprint" on the young leaves. However, Lady's Thumb is another species within the Buckwheat Family. The brown to black seeds of this plant are a favorite food of gamebirds, finches, longspurs, sparrows, and chipmunks. This species is found in moist soils throughout the preserve.
