Interesting Facts: This plant is truly a floral gem that is sought after by all wildflower enthusiasts. The plant can be very difficult to see in bloom as it only blooms for a day or two before going to seed. The genus Jeffersonia was named in honor of Thomas Jefferson, who at the time of the naming, was George Washington's Secretary of State. This secretive flower occurs in a single known population in the deep woodland area of the preserve.
