Interesting Facts: Squawroot, as others in the Broomrape family, completely lack chlorophyll and cannot photosynthesize. This species is entirely parasitic and relies on the roots of hardwood trees for nutrients. Squawroot occurs in very localized populations in the wooded areas of the preserve, especially around Beech trees.
