Interesting Facts: This legume species is a common wildflower in the sunny areas of the preserve. It was originally introduced from Europe because of its high-nutrient value for livestock. As with other legume species, it has root nodules that are one of the few vessels on earth that can trap atmospheric Nitrogen and convert it to a form that can be readily utilized by plants to make proteins.
