Interesting Facts: This common annual is widespread in areas of the preserve with moist, alkaline soils. The common name of both Touch-Me-Not's (Pale and Spotted) are in response to the seed pods which, when mature, "pop" open at the slightest touch. The juices of this plant are said to relieve the stinging sensation caused by Wood Nettle (Laportea canadensis).
