Interesting Facts: The common name of this plant comes from the early settlers who thought this plant was good for a variety of medicinal purposes. Sometimes the flowers of this plant are protected form nectar-stealing insects by a collar of small leaves which curl downward and although insects may crawl onto the bottom surface, the tops are usually quite slippery and wingless insects find it difficult to climb over the edge and enter the flower. This plant occurs along the Deer Lick Run Creek in localized populations.
