Interesting Facts: This plant occurs in a very localized population in the meadow area of the preserve. The "bearded tongue" refers to one of the 5 stamens of the plant which is sterile and does not produce pollen. This stamen turns into a hairy or "bearded" tongue to attract insects for pollination.
