Crown Vetch (Coronilla varia)

Family: Pea Family (Fabaceae)

Interesting Facts: This invasive species was initially introduced to the area as a natural form of erosion control and as a "green fertilizer" (Legumes trap nitrogen in the soil). However, the plant is so well adapted to the habitat that it has become a problem in many parts of Eastern United States. A localized population of this species can be found along Deer Lick Run Creek near the Nature Center.
