Interesting Facts: This plant has three petals, two that are bright blue, and a third that is white and usually unnoticed. The plants bloom for several months in the summer, but each flower lasts for only one day, and thus its common name. Commelina comes from the Commelyn brothers, three Dutch botanists. Two were very ambitious and did a great deal of work, the third worked less hard (the less showy white petal is a symbol).
