Well-socialized, well-behaved dogs gain great benefits from trips to the dog park. They work on pack skills, learn to deal with other dogs in a strange space, and reinforce off-leash skills. What is a dog park, though, and what dogs should go?

A dog park is an official off-leash area designed for dogs. They are fenced in, to keep the dogs contained. In some cities they may be only a few hundred square feet, but in mid-sized cities and suburbs they can be much larger. Dog parks have grass, gravel, or sometimes just dirt for dogs to run and roll on. Agility training equipment like a teeter-totter or jumps are in place at many off-leash sites, like playgrounds for dogs.

Much like children’s playgrounds, dog parks require certain behavior for everyone’s safety and enjoyment. Fur-kids that won’t come when called, requiring their people to chase them all over are probably not ready for a day at the park. Dogs that react violently to strangers might need more time meeting strangers in a controlled environment before being tossed into the chaos that is a dog park. Animals with dog aggression should never go to the off-leash park. For well-trained, healthy dogs, though, the chance to run and play with new friends is a great opportunity.

How can you tell when it’s the holiday season in Cincinnati? Well, by the Festival of Lights, of course. Now enjoying its 28th year, the exhibit runs until January 2 from 5-9pm (excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) and is considered one of the largest and most anticipated holiday events of the season at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. Some new highlights for the 2010 season include new themed areas such as Fairy Land; story telling with Mrs. Claus, rapping elves, a wild lights show on Swan lake, a gingerbread village, and a Happy Feet 4D experience. While the lights are slated between the hours of 5pm and 9pm, why not come early to enjoy the zoo and gardens and then stay for the Festival of Lights since there is no additional fee beyond regular zoo admission. And while there, why not consider doing some Christmas shopping at the zoo gift shop or gifting a zoo membership or education program certificate. Talk about one-stop shopping and having fun at the same time! Don’t miss this holiday tradition especially if you’ve never attended before and can use this year as the first in becoming your family’s newest seasonal tradition!

If you’re thinking of relocating to Cincinnati there is one thing you need to learn pretty darn quick. The city is all about its chili.”Cincinnati style” chili is a regional favorite (dare I say addiction?) that is characterized as no other chili you might have encountered since it contains ingredients such as cinnamon, cloves, allspice, or even chocolate.Don’t be scared it’s awesomely yummy. And what makes Cincinnati’s chili even more interesting is the unique way it’s served or ordered:

two-way: spaghetti and chili

three-way: spaghetti, chili, and shredded cheese

four-way: spaghetti, chili, shredded cheese, and either diced onions or beans

five-way: spaghetti, chili, shredded cheese, diced onions, and beans

A suggestion for your first encounter is to try the “two way” and if you get bitten by the addition-bug (as I suspect you will) then venture out to the other delectable combinations. So if you’re considering Cincinnati for relocation and visiting here on a possible house-hunting mission, definitely take the time to sit down and relax over a bowl of “two-way.” Chances are it’ll seal the deal for making Cincinnati your new home!

It’s just past six and your stomach has started to growl. At this moment, anything edible would satisfy your hunger, but your family can’t decide where to go. Instead of getting impatient and settling for a sub-par restaurant that will solve your hunger problem but leave your taste buds disappointed, try one of Cincinnati’s top rated eateries. Ranging from to , these taste-test approved restaurants will have your mouth watering and your stomach quieted in no time.

The Precinct: Many claim Jeff Ruby’s Precinct has served them the best steak they’ve ever sunk their teeth into. This classy steak house has been nationally recognized as one of the best 14 steak houses in the country by Vogue Magazine, and “one of America’s 25 best restaurants” by Playboy Magazine. These awards are well precedentedthough falling on the pricey side, The Precinct offers excellent service, generous portions, and unbeatable steaks.

Terry’s Turf Club: If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because this old school burger joint was recently featured on the Food Network’s hit show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It seems the Food Network can’t get enough of Terry’s Turf Clubthey picked it as the Best Burger in Ohio last year in 2009. Clearly, the burgers at Terry’s are worth trying. We should warn you, the venue is lit by a dazzling array of neon signs which illuminate vintage decorations and spunky (but friendly) servers.

Montgomery Inn Boathouse: Get your fingers sticky at this casual BBQ restaurant. The atmosphere is fun-loving and relaxed thanks to its prime location by the river, the food is delicious and authenticwe recommend the ribs that are smothered and covered in their original BBQ sauce recipe, and the service is first rate.

If you need a way to fill downtime on the weekends then one of these unique recreational parks is the right place for you. Aside from Cincinnati’s great sporting events (the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals), Cincinnati, Ohio is home to a great selection of outdoor activities. The Big Bone Lick State Park is the birthplace of American vertebrate paleontology. Once filled with fossilized remains of prehistoric animals such as giant mastodons, wooly mammoths, and ground sloths, this National Natural Landmark is now covered with grassy plains and salty springs.Dagaz Acres is a family run leadership center and zipline adventure course. The term ‘Dagaz’ comes from an ancient Nordic rune meaning ‘transformational breakthrough change’. Offering multiple outdoor activities that allow guests to let go of their daily hassles and connect with nature, they guarantee you’ll return home with fresh new perspectives and incentives. Be sure to book an appointment in advance if you plan to zipline with a group of 4 or more.Loveland Bike Trail isn’t your traditional biking experience. More of a leisurely glide, this section of Little Miami Scenic Trail is lined with coffee shops, and ice cream parlors. Bring the whole family out to enjoy a relaxing bike ride, and check the event schedule for dates of porch parties and concerts.Tree climbing probably isn’t something you think of doing on a daily basis. That’s what makes Tree Climbers, a professional company, a uniquely off beat but fun experience. After you learn the safety rules, the lines are set and the knots are tied so you can master the art of tree climbing before making your way to the canopy on your own. You’ll fit right in among the toy monkeys as you limb surf, ‘bat hang’, and rest in comfortable tree chairs.
